The big VET es will explore innovative ways to use technology that support and enhance teaching, learning and assessment for vocational education and training (VET) in Queensland. Come and be inspired and motivated to meet the challenges of the digital age in different learning environments. This event is proudly supported by the national training system’s e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework).

 

Keynote speakers:

Chasing squirrels possums and learning online - Jonathan Finkelstein, founder and executive producer of LearningTimes, an online community of education and training professionals, will provide examples of how online learning communities can enhance and foster workplace and industry opportunities by creating a social presence in a virtual world.

Letting go of what we know: the importance of unlearning - Dr Karen Becker, of Queensland University of Technology, will discuss the challenge of confronting those who cling to outdated approaches to education and training.

Four Queensland Framework E-learning Innovations projects will showcase how they are using technology in innovative ways to educate and train people whilst embedding e-learning into everyday business practices:

E-portfolios – Managing Your Information - Allison Miller, Business Manager for the Framework’s E-portfolios business activity, will demonstrate what an e-portfolio is and how they are being used in VET to meet industry needs.

 

e-collaborate:

Engaging the Crowd - Tools for Tracking Live Events - Michael Coghlan, E-learning Facilitator for TAFE South Australia, will demonstrate examples of how new tools can help gather input from everyone who needs to have a say.

 

e-innovate:

Virtual Worlds – What is all the fuss about? - Brad Beach, Gipps TAFE Victoria, will explore virtual worlds in Second Life and demonstrate ways in which to provide new learning experiences for students which would simply be to difficult or risky to provide in a face to face mode.

 Flexible learning
